Embracing the Power of Community 🌟

Fellow worms,

We’re so glad you’re here. Really and truly.

Without you, we don’t exist. It’s this community of vibrant readers and thinkers and wormies that make us more than just an app.

This is a community where we celebrate new ideas and different perspectives and fiercely believe in the power of coming together, sharing our thoughts, and fostering a sense of belonging in the book world.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. With that said, welcome to our newest string of newsletters: the Community Corner.

Also, hello, I’m Ali aka @codeblue, a writer-worm who’s excited to steer the Community Corner! I live in Atlanta, am obsessed with my pup, Mable, and few things make me happier than a good book (currently reading: Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros). Grateful to be here and talk shop (and by shop I mean books).

Ali’s pup in question: Mable

Your Voice Matters 🔎

On the heels of that, we have a favor to ask. We’re desperate to hear your honest thoughts about how Bookworm is serving you. We have two ways we could use your help:

Volunteer to participate in a user interview

We only need 30 minutes of your time, and it will help us immensely to understand how you’re using Bookworm, and where we can improve.

Login or Subscribe to participate in polls.

Give us your honest feedback in a 5-minute feedback form. What do you love? What aren’t you the biggest fan of? How can we be better?

Brick & Mortar 4Ever: feat. HOTlanta* 🏱

At Bookworm, we cherish our shared digital spaces and those that exist IRL, too. The spaces where you can crack spines and pet pups and sip cups and get your mitts on your next favorite read.

That’s right, we’re talking about the magical experience of visiting brick-and-mortar bookstores. Today, we want to celebrate the power of shopping small and local by highlighting Atlanta’s Top 5 Shops (These are in no particular order. I tried, but it simply wasn’t possible. They’re all too good.):

A Capella Books - Dubbed “the smartest bookstore in town,” A Capella Books first opened its doors in 1989. Three locations later, their selection of new, used, and rare books is next-to-none. Plus, they often partner with the Atlanta History Center for some bangin’ author readings and events.

Bookish - Nestled in the heart of East Atlanta Village, Bookish stocks a curated collection of new and used books, with an emphasis on diverse fiction and social justice-oriented nonfiction. No matter if you’re a youngster or a full-grown, they’ve got a book for you.

Virginia Highlands Books - Before this was a bookstore, it was a clothing store. And before that, it was an outdoor gear store. But in my bones, I always knew it was meant to hold books. Virginia Highlands Books settled in in 2021. A new shop in a building that’s over a hundred years old, Virginia Highlands Books marries the old and the new.

Little Shop of Stories - Specializing in books and programming for kids, Little Shop of Stories is a magical space. Not only is the floor made of pennies, but the Atlanta vibes are palpable. It doesn’t hurt that it sits right in the center of the Decatur Square.

Eagle Eye Books - Eagle Eye hosts a bunch of really great author events, has a section highlighting Southern authors, and has shelves overflowing with well-loved second-hand books. The folks are kind and if you’re stumped on what you want, the staff can offer some pretty solid recommendations.

Have you visited any of these? What’s your all time favorite bookstore? We want to hear from you.

Share your city's top bookstores, literary events, or any other bookish highlights, and we might just feature your city** in an upcoming edition of Community Corner.

*Emphasis on the HOT. It’s been near the 100s this week.

**We do have dreams of one day bringing The Bookworm Book Fair on tour. Think of T. Swift’s Eras but bigger. And bookier. More on that in the future.

Yours in dirt,

Ali
