đ Wormie Spotlight with Fern (aka @fernthebookworm) đ
Read more about one of our wormie friends, Fern, an active book club participant and husky dog owner!
Each month, we hope to chat with a wormie just like you. Bookworm is all about community, and itâs high time we get to know our neighbors. We want to learn more about your reading habits, favorite books, and the odd, beautiful things that make you you.
This monthâs wormie, Fern, is an active book club participant and husky dog owner! đ©âđ« đ Meet Fern.
Here's our conversation with Fern. Our questions are in bold, and Fernâs responses are directly below each question.
Whatâs the book youâre always recommending to friends?
One book Iâm always recommending to friendsâeven years after reading itâis Bunny by Mona Awad.
Itâs one of those books that never really leaves you. I read it a while ago, and I still find myself bringing it up in conversation anytime someone says they want something âdifferent.â And trust me, Bunny is different. Itâs bizarre, beautiful, unsettling, and addictive all at once.
The story follows Samantha, a scholarship student in an elite MFA program, who finds herself drawn into a clique of ultra-feminine, cultish girls who call each other âBunny.â What starts off as satirical and kind of hilarious quickly spirals into the surrealâlike, straight-up What is happening? territory. But itâs not weird for the sake of being weird. Itâs smart and sharp, dissecting loneliness, identity, toxic female friendships, class anxiety, creativity, and the dark side of academia.
Whatâs the book that made you love reading?
The book that made me fall in love with readingâlike, really fall in love with itâis probably a clichĂ©, but itâs The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I first read it as a teenager, and I can still remember that quiet ache it left in my chest. It was the first time I felt like a book saw me.
How do you decide what to read next?
Honestly? Itâs a mix of chaos and vibes. I usually go with whatever my IRL book club is reading, whateverâs about to expire on Libby (because nothing motivates like a deadline), or just whatever matches my current mood.
How did you find out about Bookworm?
I actually found Bookworm while scrolling through the Apple App Store! I had been using Goodreads, StoryGraph, and Bookmory, but honestly, none of them really clicked for me. I was tired of bouncing between apps and just wanted one that felt right. Bookworm immediately stood outâit matched my fun, colorful aesthetic, and itâs genuinely enjoyable to look at and use. It felt like the perfect blend of function and personality.
What dream bestie do you want for your worm?
Oh my goodnessâas an absolute dog lover and mom of two rescued huskies, my dream bestie for my worm would definitely be a little husky puppy. Bonus points if it had big floofy ears and followed my worm around like a loyal sidekick. But honestly? Iâd also love something slightly cursed-lookingâlike a weird little Furby-Labubu hybrid with big eyes and chaotic energy.
