📚 Wormie Spotlight with Savanna Clark (aka @savanna.the.worm) 📚

Read more about one of our wormie friends, Savanna, a lover of classic books and Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones!

Each month, we hope to chat with a wormie just like you. Bookworm is all about community, and it’s high time we get to know our neighbors. We want to learn more about your reading habits, favorite books, and the odd, beautiful things that make you you.

This month’s wormie, Savanna, a lover of classic books and Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. Meet Savanna Clark.

Here's our conversation with Savanna. Our questions are in bold, and Savanna’s responses are directly below each question.

What’s one book you think everyone in the Bookworm community should read? Why?
This isn’t just one book, but I think everyone should read at least one classic every once in a while. There’s so much to be gained from reading outside my typical genre, but classics especially stretch my brain with bigger words and old-fashioned culture in a way that always makes me think. Plus it’s neat to see the history of literature and how we got to where we are, even if it doesn’t end up becoming a favorite book.

What’s the book you’re always recommending to friends?
The book I recommend most often in person is Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko. The books I recommend most often on Bookworm are Howl’s Moving Castle (Diana Wynne Jones) and Dealing with Dragons (Patricia C. Wrede).

What’s the book that made you love reading?
My mom introduced me to The Boxcar Children when I was just starting to read chapter books on my own, and I LOVED them! I checked out so many of those books from the local library and devoured them one after the other. While I can’t say how they hold up, I do still love a good mystery!

How do you decide what to read next?
It’s mostly vibes—what do I feel like picking up next?—especially seasonal vibes. But I do tend to prioritize books I have checked out from the library, books I own, or books my sister recommended.

How did you find out about Bookworm?
I started getting into tracking my reading the last few years and wanted something to take that beyond the notes app on my phone. I think I found Bookworm in a Google search somehow, and I immediately fell in love with the genuinely welcoming community there. It feels like a rarity on the internet these days, and it’s so refreshing.

What dream bestie do you want for your worm?
A lil frog đŸ„č
